L’allarme giunge dalle colonne di Science, dopo la pubblicazione di un’analisi condotta da uno dei più importanti centri di ricerca oceanografica del mondo, il Woods hole oceanographic institution.

Sebbene le interazioni farmaco-cibo siano considerate cruciali per l'efficacia del trattamento in varie malattie, l'effetto degli alimenti sui medicinali è difficile da determinare in modo certo. Per esempio, attualmente non sono praticamente disponibili dati che descrivano le interazioni delle statine con i componenti della dieta: mancano evidenze per quanto riguarda gli effetti additivi, complementari o antagonisti.
Non è noto se sia possibile modificare con la dieta le concentrazioni sieriche di catepsina (CatD), una peptidasi aspartata che svolge un ruolo nel turnover proteico e può essere coinvolta nella fibrogenesi epatica.
